It gets me right to the point of this entry, though!
---
I'm sorry to those of you wondering where I've been.
One the one hand, I'm trying to balance my computer and non-computer time usage in favor of the latter. Because there is so much life out there to live! But, then, here's the second thing keeping me at bay: I am having another bad run-in with faltering self-confidence.
In short, I've faced my old works on here and either cringed or smiled-- but, when I put my hand to the paper anew, it's like I'm scared of what I'll make. I imagine that in half an hour when I look at the sketch again I will despise it. Or, see all the flaws (sometimes those two are the same but often, I'm guessing, they're not).
---
I decided to try and do what I love best which is to make pictures for people besides me. That actually gets me motivated. I don't want to give up on my art! So I'm taking this chance to create with a purpose and face my fears.
You'll probably be seeing a lot of pieces that could really use a perspective enhancer (if only those existed), or better pencil strokes, or more time put into it in order to get (closer-to-)perfection.
Maybe I'm only treating myself unkindly again!
Or, maybe I am looking at the commercial art world around me and thinking, "I don't stand a chance." It's not that I want to be a commercial or full-time artist. But I do want to be able to write and illustrate a book that could get published, which would therefore need to sell. (It's a competitive world out there...)
But we humans don't get far when we do nothing but put ourselves down. We only get anywhere when we treat ourselves gentler and kinder.
---
My plea is this: I hope that you don't mind the way things are going for me right now! And I hope that the stuff you see getting put up here doesn't demand too much of a need for you to hold back the tears... or the laughter. We'll see!
Still Sincerely Yours,
damasca
